The estate's 25-hectare plateau parcel sits on deep Quaternary Garonne gravel over a Tertiary limestone and clay-marl terrace, the gravel mounds rising just enough above the flat Médoc plain to shed water with precision; the Lestonnat stream completes the drainage. Thin, nutrient-poor soils restrain vine vigour and concentrate flavour into small, thick-skinned berries — the structural basis for the Grand Vin's characteristic tannin finesse rather than brute extraction. The 2020 blend reads 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc — the highest Cabernet proportion in recent estate history, harvested at reduced yield due to lower natural fertility. Hand-sorted fruit ferments parcel-by-parcel across nearly 100 vats as small as 25 hL; malolactic fermentation for free-run wine occurs in vat, press wine in barrel. Aging runs 18–24 months in 100% new French oak, a significant share coopered at the estate's own on-site cooperage — unique among the five First Growths and giving the team direct control over toast profile and wood grain. The Grand Vin has carried organic certification since 2017. 2020 completes a third consecutive exceptional year (2018–2019–2020), delivering perfect tannin density alongside the estate's signature aromatic precision; drink 2030–2055+.
