Bardolino Chiaretto Classico DOC
฿
DOC.
Zeni, founded in 1870 and still family-run across five generations in Bardolino, built its reputation on the eastern shore of Lake Garda — a strip of land where glacial retreat left behind loose, well-drained moraine soils of sand, gravel, and silt over a clay-limestone base. The lake's thermal mass moderates temperature swings dramatically, preserving aromatic freshness and natural acidity in grapes that would otherwise ripen too fast in the Veneto heat.
Bardolino Chiaretto Classico is produced from the same indigenous varieties as the red Bardolino — predominantly Corvina Veronese, with Rondinella and Molinara — but vinified with only brief skin contact, typically a matter of hours, to extract the signature pale copper-salmon hue without extracting tannin. Fermentation proceeds at controlled low temperatures to lock in primary fruit aromatics. The result is a bone-dry rosé with no residual sweetness and a pronounced mineral spine drawn from the stony moraine subsoil.
What sets Chiaretto Classico apart from generic Italian rosato is the DOC Classico designation, restricted to the original historical communes of Bardolino and Lazise — a smaller, more tightly defined zone than the broader Bardolino appellation. Drink within one to two years of vintage to capture the wine's characteristic citrus-driven tension at its sharpest.
