Gran Cuvee Rose
฿
Farnese Vini, founded in 1994 in Ortona, built the Fantini label as proof that Abruzzo's volume-scale viticulture need not sacrifice varietal identity — the Gran Cuvée Rosé is the rosé expression of that argument. The vineyards draw from the broad Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC zone, where alluvial and clay-rich soils on the Adriatic-facing slopes retain enough moisture to moderate the region's intense summer heat, preserving natural acidity in the grape skins. Direct-press or short-maceration handling of Montepulciano — a thick-skinned variety that would otherwise yield deeply tannic reds — extracts the grape's vivid red-fruit pigment while keeping phenolic extraction minimal. Fermentation is conducted at controlled low temperatures to lock in primary aromatics, with stainless steel aging that keeps the profile fruit-forward and unoaked. What sets this expression apart within the Fantini range is the choice of Montepulciano as the sole rosé base: most Italian rosati at this price tier default to Sangiovese or international blends, making a mono-varietal Montepulciano rosé structurally distinctive — darker in hue, fleshier in texture. Drink young, within 1–2 years of vintage, when the fruit is at its most expressive.
