Margaret River produces only 3% of Australia's wine but accounts for over 20% of the premium segment. The region's maritime climate, moderated by the Indian Ocean, produces Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blends of remarkable elegance — often compared to the best of Pessac-Léognan. Chardonnay is equally impressive, with producers like Leeuwin Estate, Vasse Felix, and Cullen producing world-class examples. The region was only planted in the late 1960s following research by agronomist Dr. John Gladstones, yet it has rapidly established itself as one of Australia's finest wine regions.
