Campbeltown sits on the Kintyre peninsula and was once the Victorian-era whisky capital of Scotland, housing over 30 distilleries at its peak. Today only three remain — Springbank, Glen Scotia, and Glengyle (producing Kilkerran) — yet the region retains its own official classification. Springbank is particularly celebrated for its fully on-site production, from floor malting to bottling. Campbeltown whiskies are characterised by a distinctive combination of maritime salt, slight peat smoke, fruit, and oily texture that is unlike any other Scotch region.
