The Pict 2008
฿฿฿
The Pict draws its name from the ancient Celtic warriors of Scotland—a nod to Torbreck's founder David Powell's heritage and the wine's uncompromising character. Sourced from old-vine Grenache parcels across the Barossa Valley, the fruit originates from low-yielding sites where deep red earth and slate-influenced soils produce concentrated, mineral-driven expression.
The 2008 vintage underwent open-top fermentation in temperature-controlled vessels, with extended maceration to extract tannin structure without over-extraction. The blend spent 14 months in French oak (40% new), building complexity while preserving the wine's primary fruit intensity. Malolactic fermentation completed in barrel, softening acidity while deepening mid-palate weight.
This is a Grenache-dominant blend (typically 85%+) built for cellaring—the 2008 remains in its primary evolution window, with tannins still asserting themselves. Drink now through 2028 as the wine's structure gradually resolves into secondary complexity.
