Pierluigi Talenti spent decades shaping Brunello di Montalcino's modern identity — first as head winemaker at Il Poggione, then from 1980 as the architect of his own estate at Pian di Conte, Sant'Angelo in Colle, where he planted proprietary Sangiovese clones whose genetic lineage now runs three generations deep. The Riserva carries that founding act forward: it is drawn exclusively from the estate's oldest vines, clustered near the property's centre at approximately 400 m a.s.l. on sandy loam interlaced with Galestro marl and clay — the friable limestone-schist that drives the wine's structural tension and mineral lift, while the southern sector's warmth delivers flesh and depth.

Vinification proceeds parcel by parcel in temperature-controlled stainless steel at 28–29°C, with skin maceration of 25–30 days to extract the full architecture of these old-vine Sangiovese Grosso clones. Aging moves into a blend of Allier and Slavonian oak — a deliberate pairing of French finesse with Slavonian breadth — for an extended period before bottle rest; the Riserva 'Pian di Conte' is produced only in exceptional years, making 2019 a rare release. Where Montalcino's modernist camp leans on barrique and new-oak extraction, Talenti's medium-format vessels preserve site transparency over wood imprint. The 2019 vintage at Sant'Angelo in Colle delivered the southern sector's characteristic power alongside unusual freshness — juicy blue fruits, balsamic lift, and earthy licorice — with a drinking window opening from approximately 2027; the magnum format extends that trajectory further still.
