Producer history

Guado al Tasso traces back to the noble Della Gherardesca family, who practiced viticulture on the Bolgheri land from the late 1600s. In 1930, Niccolò Antinori married Carlotta Della Gherardesca, who brought the Guado al Tasso estate into the Antinori family as her dowry (that same year, her sister Clarice married Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and brought the neighboring Tenuta San Guido, later home to Sassicaia, as her own dowry). Niccolò and Carlotta's son, Marchese Piero Antinori, inherited Guado al Tasso a generation later and decided to produce a dedicated Bolgheri red there in the late 1980s, releasing the first Guado al Tasso vintage in 1990; Matarocchio followed as a single-vineyard Cabernet Franc bottling starting with the 2007 vintage.
