Reserva.

Alejandro Fernández launched Tinto Pesquera in 1972, betting that Tempranillo — locally called Tinto Fino — could rival Rioja without blending. That conviction built Ribera del Duero's modern identity. The estate's vineyards sit around the village of Pesquera de Duero at roughly 800 metres elevation on limestone-clay soils, where extreme diurnal temperature swings preserve acidity and concentrate pigment while the chalky subsoil limits vine vigour and intensifies fruit character.

The Reserva undergoes extended maceration on skins before ageing in American oak barrels for a minimum of 24 months, followed by further bottle rest before release — a regime that imparts the estate's signature vanilla and cedar structure over dense dark fruit. Fernández's deliberate choice of American rather than French oak remains a house hallmark, producing a more assertive wood signature than most Ribera peers who have shifted to French cooperage.

What sets this Reserva apart is its status as the expression that first put Ribera del Duero on the international map in the 1980s, produced from a single-appellation estate that has never changed its oak philosophy. Drink now through the next 8–10 years; recent vintages show plush dark plum and tobacco with the oak integrating well after 2–3 years of additional cellaring.
