From our sommelier team
Ata Rangi's home vineyards are certified organic under BioGro, and the estate was among the founding participants in New Zealand's Sustainable Winegrowing (SWNZ) programme — worth noting because it places the winery among the pioneers of both Martinborough Pinot Noir and organic viticulture in New Zealand, not just an early adopter of one or the other.
Signature pairings
- Grilled duck breast with tamarind glaze (เป็ดย่างซอสมะขาม) — Pinot Noir's bright acidity and soft tannin are a classic match for duck's fat, and tamarind's sweet-sour edge complements the wine's red-fruit character without overwhelming it with chili heat.
- Mushroom and herb larb (mild) (ลาบเห็ด) — Earthy mushroom and herbal notes (mint, coriander) mirror Pinot Noir's savory, forest-floor side, but this only works if the chili is dialed back — a fully spiced larb would clash with the wine's delicate tannin.
Ata Rangi's 2021 Pinot Noir from Martinborough showcases the region's signature elegance and restraint. Red cherry and strawberry dominate the nose, supported by subtle plum and mineral notes that evolve on the palate. Medium-full body and silky tannins create a refined mouthfeel, while earthy undertones and gentle spice add complexity without heaviness. A versatile food wine suited to roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, and lighter red-meat preparations.
