Coudoulet de Beaucastel AOP Cote de Rhone Rouge
฿฿
Coudoulet de Beaucastel is the secondary label of Château de Beaucastel, established to showcase fruit from the producer's holdings in the warmer, lower-elevation southern reaches of the Côtes du Rhône appellation, just outside Châteauneuf-du-Pape proper.
The vineyard sits on the characteristic rolled river pebbles and sandy loam of the southern Rhône floor, at lower elevation than the main estate, which concentrates ripeness and pushes the phenolic profile toward darker fruit. Grenache dominates the blend, supported by Syrah and Mourvèdre in proportions that shift with vintage—a deliberate refusal to standardize, reflecting Famille Perrin's commitment to vintage expression over house style.
Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled concrete vats, followed by aging in a mix of concrete and large-format foudre (no new oak), preserving primary aromatics and allowing the pebble-driven minerality to remain audible. The wine spends 12–14 months in vessel before bottling without fining or filtration.
This vintage carries the ripeness signature of its warmer site: darker stone fruit, garrigue, and white pepper emerge cleanly, without the oak overlay that might obscure terroir. Drink now through 2032; the wine is approachable young but gains textural depth with 3–5 years of bottle age.
