Clos Des Echalas AOP
฿฿
SaleDomaine Jaume has farmed Clos des Échalas since the 1970s, a south-facing parcel within the Vinsobres AOP that sits at 350–400 metres elevation on decomposed schist and limestone soils. The steep aspect and thin, rocky terrain force the vines to work harder, concentrating fruit and mineral character.
The grenache is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, then aged in a combination of concrete tanks and large foudre (neutral oak) for 12–14 months. This vessel choice—avoiding new oak—allows the wine's mineral spine and site expression to remain unmasked. The schist terroir translates directly into the glass: a wine built on acidity and structure rather than fruit weight.
Clos des Échalas stands apart in the Vinsobres lineup for its restraint and geological honesty. Many producers in the region push toward riper, more voluptuous grenache; this cuvée instead prioritises the cool-climate tension that schist soils naturally deliver.
The current release shows the characteristic Vinsobres profile: medium body, bright acidity, and fine-grained tannin from the grenache skin contact. Drink now through 2032 as the wine's mineral core will only sharpen with bottle age.
