−14%Luis Felipe Edwards Sr. acquired the Puquillay Alto estate in 1976, planting into a horseshoe-shaped micro-valley sheltered by the San Fernando ridge — a deliberate topographic choice that would define the tension in every wine carrying the Alto Los Romeros name. That mountain influence, with vineyards reaching up to 900 m asl in Colchagua, is among the highest elevation sourcing in the valley, and it shows in the structural backbone of even this rosé tier. Soils at Puquillay Alto are a complex mix of granitic and volcanic rock, delivering low organic matter and forcing vines to work for water — a natural yield-limiter that concentrates juice before the winemaking team at the Puquillay facility even touches the fruit. The winery employs pneumatic pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation under chief winemaker Nicolás Bizzarri, preserving the aromatic lift that cool-site fruit generates. What separates this rosé from typical warm-valley Chilean pink wine is precisely that elevation and the multi-valley sourcing philosophy: where most Colchagua rosés lean into soft, sun-saturated fruit, the mountain and coastal-cool influence here produces a firmer acid line and more restrained fruit weight. Drink young to capture that freshness.
