Johnnie Walker Double Black (1 L)
฿1,999
John Walker's founding insight in 1820 Kilmarnock was borrowed directly from tea merchants: blend across regions and seasons to eliminate batch variation. Double Black applies that logic at higher intensity — the blending team deliberately weighted the Caol Ila (Islay) component upward and leaned harder into ex-Sherry European oak maturation to produce a profile that sits measurably darker than the 12-year minimum Black Label from which it descends.
The blend draws from the same pan-Scotland architecture — Cardhu (Speyside) as the honeyed heart, Caol Ila (Islay) for maritime peat smoke, and Clynelish (Highland) for waxy coastal depth — but the Islay smoke register is pushed to the foreground rather than held in equilibrium. Ex-Sherry cask influence is amplified relative to the ex-bourbon American oak baseline that dominates standard Black Label, adding dried-fruit density and a darker wood-spice frame. Bottled at 40% ABV, chill-filtered, from Diageo's blending operations at Leven, Fife.
What separates Double Black within the Johnnie Walker tier is its deliberate transgression of the house's signature smoke-sweetness-spice equilibrium: smoke is not balanced here — it leads, with sweetness in support. No age statement applies; the expression is non-vintage by design to maintain batch consistency.
