Ballantine's 17 Years (700 ml)
฿3,019
Ballantine's was founded in Edinburgh in 1827 by George Ballantine, and the 17 Year Old represents the house's commitment to long-maturation blending — a practice increasingly rare at this age tier in commercial Scotch. The blend draws from more than 50 component whiskies, with Speyside malts (notably Miltonduff and Glenburgie) providing the aromatic spine alongside heavier Highland and Islay contributions for structural depth. Each component is aged a minimum of 17 years before blending, with maturation conducted predominantly in ex-bourbon American oak casks, contributing vanilla and dried orchard character, supplemented by ex-sherry European oak for dried fruit and spice. Bottled at 40% ABV, the whisky is chill-filtered to maintain clarity at retail temperatures. What distinguishes this expression within the Ballantine's range is the deliberate retention of Glenburgie's floral, waxy character as a top-note anchor — a house signature that resists the heavier caramel profile common among age-statement blends at this tier. Approachable now, with complexity that rewards slow sipping over the next several years.
