Balblair 15 Year (700 ml)
฿4,685
When Balblair abandoned its vintage-release model in 2019 — one of Scotland's most committed single-year labelling programmes since 2007 — the 15 Year became the clearest statement of what the distillery's unhurried craft actually produces. Situated on the southern shore of the Dornoch Firth in Edderton, Ross-shire, the distillery draws water from the Allt Dearg burn, piped five miles from the Edderton Hills — the same source retained even when the distillery relocated in 1872. Slow distillation through squat, onion-shaped copper pot stills with wide necks and no reflux bowls builds a dense, ester-forward new make, filled into cask at approximately 68.5% ABV — well above the Scottish industry norm of ~63.5% — which structurally slows maturation and preserves original spirit character. The 15 Year undergoes primary maturation in American oak ex-bourbon hogsheads, then a finishing period in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, all aged in traditional dunnage warehouses with beaten-earth floors dating to 1894. What sets this expression apart: the high fill strength combined with on-site dunnage ageing means the sherry finish encounters a spirit of unusual density, producing dried-fruit and baking-spice integration rather than surface sweetness. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered, natural colour — no caramel addition across the entire core range.
