Cragganmore 12 Years (700 ml)
฿3,299
Cragganmore was founded in 1869 by John Smith — reputedly the most knowledgeable distiller of his era — who specifically chose a site beside the Strathspey Railway to ease cask transport, a logistical decision that locked in the distillery's remote Ballindalloch location on the River Spey. That site sits at roughly 210 metres elevation in a sheltered valley, where cool, damp air slows maturation and preserves delicate ester development.
The distillery is distinguished by its unusually flat-topped pot stills, a design that increases copper reflux and produces a notably complex, multi-layered new make spirit — a rarity in Speyside. The 12 Year Old is matured in a combination of refill American oak ex-bourbon casks and European oak ex-sherry butts, with no age-statement blending beyond the stated minimum, bottled at 40% ABV without chill-filtration details publicly confirmed. The result carries dried fruit and malt character driven by the sherry wood alongside lighter vanilla from the bourbon cooperage.
Cragganmore 12 was selected as one of the original six Classic Malts of Scotland in 1988, a commercial designation that nonetheless reflects genuine distillery character rather than marketing invention. Drink now through the mid-2030s; older stock benefits from 20–30 minutes of air.
