Arran Quarter Cask (Bothy 4) (700 ml)
฿3,185
When Harold Currie, former Managing Director of Chivas Brothers, revived legal distillation on Arran in 1995 after a 160-year island silence, he made a deliberate transgression: no peat, no maritime smoke — just clean, fruit-driven spirit that defied every Islands convention. The Quarter Cask 'The Bothy' (Batch 4) is that philosophy taken to its most concentrated form. Water drawn from Loch na Davie, high in the granite mountains above Lochranza, cascades through six waterfalls of the Easan Biorach burn, emerging soft and mineral-clean — a direct contributor to the distillery's characteristically bright, citrus-forward new make. Fermentation runs 60–75 hours in Oregon pine washbacks using Kerry M yeast, deliberately extended to build fruity congeners before double distillation through tall-necked, long-lyne-arm copper pot stills. The resulting spirit, collected at ~68% ABV, is then matured in quarter casks — smaller vessels that dramatically increase the wood-to-spirit contact ratio, accelerating the extraction of vanilla and spice from American oak. Bottled at 56.2% ABV natural cask strength, non-chill filtered, with zero caramel colouring, The Bothy breaks from the Islands norm twice over: no peat, and no dilution. The result is a dense, orchard-rich dram where the small-cask oak integration is palpable but the house's signature citrus and cereal core remains legible.
