Courvoisier VSOP Cognac (700 ml)
฿3,299
Courvoisier's association with Napoleon Bonaparte — the emperor reportedly favoured the house's eaux-de-vie — gave the brand its enduring identity as a Jarnac-based négociant blending across Cognac's crus rather than farming a single estate. That blending philosophy defines the VSOP entirely.
The blend draws on Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne (the two premier crus, whose deep Campanian chalk and clay soils force vine roots deep, concentrating aromatic complexity) alongside Fins Bois, whose clay-limestone plateau contributes rounder, faster-maturing spirit that softens the blend's structure.
Distillation follows the double distillation en alambic charentais (copper pot still) mandated by AOC rules. Aging proceeds in Limousin oak barrels, whose wide grain releases tannin and vanilla compounds more readily than Tronçais, with the VSOP designation requiring a minimum four years — though the blend contains older reserves. The house style avoids heavy caramel addition, keeping the oak integration relatively transparent.
What distinguishes this expression within the VSOP tier is Courvoisier's deliberate inclusion of Grande Champagne distillate, a cru more commonly reserved for XO-tier blends, lending a floral, rancio-adjacent lift unusual at this price point.
Approachable now, with complexity that rewards a wide glass and room temperature.
