V.S.O.P. (700 ml)
฿฿฿
Davidoff, better known as a Swiss luxury tobacco house, extended its brand into Cognac through a licensing partnership, sourcing from the Grande Champagne cru — the innermost and most prized of Cognac's six growing zones. The designation is not marketing: Grande Champagne's deep Campanian chalk and clay soils force vine roots deep, producing eaux-de-vie with exceptional finesse and the longest aging potential of any Cognac terroir.
A V.S.O.P. designation legally requires a minimum four years of aging in French oak, though quality-tier expressions typically exceed this floor. Aging in Limousin oak — the regional standard — imparts slow tannin integration and the oxidative micro-exchange that builds dried apricot, walnut, and the characteristic rancio note: a savoury, aged-fat quality unique to long-matured Cognac. The spirit is bottled at the standard 40% ABV.
What distinguishes this expression within the V.S.O.P. tier is the Grande Champagne single-cru sourcing — most entry-level V.S.O.P. Cognacs blend across multiple crus. Ready to drink now; the rancio character will continue to integrate if cellared short-term.
