Magloire X.O. (700 ml)
฿฿฿
Calvados Père Magloire X.O. originates from the Pays d'Auge region of Normandy, where limestone-rich soils and cool Atlantic maritime influence shape cider apple character. The house, established in the 19th century, sources cider apples from Norman orchards—primarily acidic varieties like Binet Rouge and Bedan—pressed and fermented to dry cider before distillation.
The X.O. designation indicates minimum 10 years aging in French oak, predominantly Limousin and Tronçais casks. Extended wood contact develops deep amber color and integrates vanilla, caramel, and toasted hazelnut notes from oak phenolics. The spirit undergoes periodic racking to manage oxidation and allow gradual concentration of apple esters beneath oak influence.
Calvados Père Magloire's house style emphasizes fruit-forward maturity—the X.O. retains orchard character (dried apple, quince) while oak provides structural warmth and spice. This balance between primary fruit and secondary wood-aging complexity distinguishes it from younger expressions.
Bottled at 40% ABV, the X.O. represents a mature, contemplative expression suited to extended cellaring or immediate enjoyment.
