Dartigalongue Diva Hors d' Age (700 ml)
฿4,729
Dartigalongue, founded in 1838 in Nogaro, is the oldest Armagnac house still operating under its original name — a fact that matters here because Hors d'Âge status requires a minimum of ten years in oak, and Dartigalongue's Diva blend draws on reserves considerably older than that floor. Nogaro sits at the heart of Bas-Armagnac, the appellation's most prized sub-zone, where sandy, iron-rich soils called sables fauves yield distillates of unusual aromatic delicacy and low natural acidity — conditions that accelerate the development of rancio without hardening the spirit's texture. Armagnac law permits the traditional continuous alembic armagnacais (column still), which Dartigalongue employs rather than the pot-still method used in Cognac; this single pass at lower proof preserves more congeners and raw fruit character, which then transform slowly in black Gascon oak (chêne de Monlezun) — a local species denser and more tannic than Limousin, demanding longer aging to fully integrate. The Diva Hors d'Âge is the house's prestige non-vintage blend, positioned above their vintage single-year releases as a showcase of the cellar master's blending range across multiple decades of reserve stock. Expect the prized rancio character — that walnut-skin, oxidative depth — to be fully present, alongside dried stone fruit and beeswax from extended barrel contact. Drink now or hold; the spirit is stable and will not meaningfully evolve further in bottle.
