Elio Altare Dolcetto d'Alba
฿1,200
Elio Altare is a legendary figure in Piedmont, recognized as a revolutionary leader of the Barolo Boys who modernized the region’s winemaking in the late 1970s. After a revelatory trip to Burgundy in 1976, Altare returned to his family estate in La Morra determined to shift from rustic traditions toward elegance and precision. His radical decisions, including the introduction of French barriques and the then-controversial practice of green harvesting to reduce yields, caused a deep rift with his father but ultimately set a new global standard for quality. Today, the estate remains family-run with his daughter Silvia, maintaining a strict commitment to sustainable farming without the use of chemicals or pesticides.
The Dolcetto d'Alba is a pure expression of this philosophy, sourced from the sun-drenched, limestone-rich hills of La Morra. While the estate is world-famous for its powerful Barolos, the Dolcetto is crafted to highlight the grape's natural charm and the unique terroir of the Langhe. The winemaking process is meticulous yet minimalist, utilizing indigenous yeasts and avoiding filtration or clarification to preserve the integrity of the fruit. This approach results in a wine that captures the vibrant violet and black cherry aromatics characteristic of the variety, delivered with the signature finesse and balance that define the Altare legacy.
