฿1,800
Azienda Agricola Pelissero is a historic family-run estate located in the heart of the Langhe, within the district of Treiso. Founded in 1957 by Luigi Pelissero, the winery transitioned from selling grapes to producing its own estate-bottled wines, with the first official bottles released in 1960. Now in its third generation under the guidance of oenologist Giorgio Pelissero, the family remains dedicated to indigenous Piedmontese varieties, managing 42 hectares of vineyards. The Piani range of hills in the Ferrere subzone provides a unique terroir for this Barbera, characterized by west-facing slopes at altitudes between 250 and 350 meters. The soil features distinctive red sand veins and high lime content, which contribute to a refined tannin structure and mineral depth that distinguish these wines from those grown in heavier clay soils.
The Pelissero winemaking philosophy focuses on the "spirit of continuous research," blending traditional rituals with modern innovation to highlight varietal purity. For the Barbera D’Alba Piani, this approach involves meticulous vineyard work followed by approximately 15 to 20 days of maceration in stainless steel to preserve the grape's natural fragrance and vibrant acidity. The wine is then aged for 8 to 9 months in a combination of small French oak barriques and larger wooden casks, allowing it to develop structural complexity without overwhelming the primary fruit character. This balanced maturation process reflects the family’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and technical precision, ensuring that each bottle expresses the power and elegance of the Langhe landscape.
