Falletto di Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto
฿12,600
The Falletto estate is synonymous with the legacy of the late Bruno Giacosa, a legendary figure often referred to as the Maestro of Nebbiolo. While his family had traded grapes and wine in the Langhe since the 19th century, it was Bruno who elevated the name by focusing on exceptional vineyard selection and bottling under his own label starting in the 1950s. In 1982, he purchased the Falletto vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba, a site he considered the absolute best for producing elegant and long-lived Barolos. Today, his daughter Bruna continues this tradition alongside longtime enologist Dante Scaglione, ensuring the estate remains a benchmark for quality and true vineyard expression in Piedmont.
The Falletto vineyard is a southwest-facing amphitheater characterized by steep slopes and white, calcareous clay soils. This unique terroir in Serralunga d'Alba is renowned for producing wines with a distinct mineral backbone, noble texture, and remarkable longevity. Giacosa’s winemaking philosophy was rooted in "old-school" traditions, utilizing a three-week fermentation in stainless steel followed by several years of aging in large French oak botti. This approach prioritizes the purity of the fruit and the specific identity of the site over modern oak influence, resulting in a Barolo that is both powerful and austere, yet balanced by seductive floral aromatics and silky, refined tannins.
