Falletto di Bruno Giacosa Barbera d'Alba Falletto
฿2,300
The Falletto di Bruno Giacosa estate, founded in 1871, is led by the legacy of the late Bruno Giacosa, the Maestro of Nebbiolo. While the family originally produced wine from purchased grapes, Bruno purchased the iconic Falletto vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba in 1982. This 13-hectare site is shaped like a natural amphitheater with steep, southwest-facing slopes. The unique terroir consists of calcareous clay and limestone soils, which, combined with a high diurnal temperature range, produce grapes with deep phenolic development, vibrant acidity, and mature tannins. Today, his daughter Bruna continues to uphold these exacting standards, ensuring the estate remains a benchmark for traditional Piedmont winemaking.
The winemaking philosophy at Giacosa is rooted in minimal intervention and a profound respect for the vineyard's identity. Bruno famously believed that great wines begin in the vineyard, and he employed a traditionalist approach characterized by long macerations and aging in large French oak barrels rather than small barriques. This specific Barbera d'Alba is sourced from the estate's Falletto vineyard, reflecting the powerful and structured character of Serralunga. The estate’s commitment to quality is so absolute that vintages not meeting their rigorous standards are sold off in bulk, ensuring that every bottle bearing the Falletto label represents the true essence of its terroir.
