Monchiero Carbone Barbera d'Alba MonBirone DOC
฿2,300
Monchiero Carbone is a family-run winery based in Canale, in the heart of Piedmont’s Roero region. The estate was established in 1990 by Marco Monchiero and Lucia Carbone, uniting two families with deep viticultural roots dating back to the early 20th century. The MonBirone bottling is particularly historic, named after the Mombirone hill where great-grandmother Clotilde Valente purchased the first plot of Barbera vines in 1918. Today, the estate is led by Francesco Monchiero, who continues the family legacy by focusing on native varieties and site-specific expressions that honor the unique heritage of their ancestral lands.
The MonBirone vineyard is situated on one of the most celebrated hills in Canale, characterized by a unique terroir of clayey-calcareous soils that provide the wine with its signature power and structured elegance. Monchiero Carbone’s winemaking philosophy centers on "essentiality" and respect for the land, utilizing sustainable practices and minimal intervention to preserve the purity of the fruit. For the MonBirone Barbera, the winery employs traditional long fermentation followed by 15 to 20 months of aging in wooden barrels and additional refinement in underground terracotta cellars. This meticulous process ensures a harmonious balance between vibrant acidity and complex oak integration, reflecting the authentic character of the Roero hills.
