“Onda” Montepulciano D’Abruzzo DOC
฿
Angela Velenosi founded her estate in Offida in 1984, deliberately sourcing fruit from across central Italy's Adriatic side to build approachable, terroir-honest wines at every price point — a philosophy that makes the Onda a serious exercise in varietal transparency rather than a throwaway entry tier.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo draws its grapes from the Adriatic-facing foothills of Abruzzo, where clay-heavy soils retain moisture through the dry summer, moderating stress and preserving the grape's characteristic deep pigmentation and plush fruit density. The continental-to-Mediterranean transition climate delivers warm days and cool nights that sustain natural acidity.
Vinification follows a temperature-controlled red fermentation with skin contact sufficient to extract Montepulciano's signature dark-fruit color and soft tannin structure, followed by brief aging in oak to round texture without masking the grape's inherent rusticity. The wine is bottled early to preserve primary fruit character.
What separates Onda from peers at this price is Velenosi's cross-regional sourcing discipline — the same quality-control infrastructure used for their flagship Roggio del Filare is applied here. Drink now through 2026 for maximum fruit freshness.
