Montepulciano
A central/southern Italian red grape (most widely known in Abruzzo) — NOT the sangiovese-based Tuscan wine vino nobile di Montepulciano.
About the grape
The grape montepulciano is confusingly unrelated to the Tuscan wine vino nobile di Montepulciano, which is made from sangiovese. It is widespread throughout central and southern Italy and is especially well known in Abruzzo, where it makes the good, rustic red montepulciano d'Abruzzo — usually an appealingly straightforward everyday wine.
