Collezione Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
฿
Casal Bordino is a cooperative winery rooted in the Vasto hills of coastal Abruzzo, where vineyards sit close enough to the Adriatic to benefit from its moderating breezes yet high enough on clay-rich slopes to force vines deep for water. That diurnal tension — warm days, cool maritime nights — is the engine behind Montepulciano d'Abruzzo's signature combination of dark fruit concentration and firm, grippy tannin. The Collezione tier represents the estate's step up from everyday production: grapes are selected from older parcels on the clay-dominant soils that slow ripening and build phenolic structure. Fermentation on skins extends long enough to extract the variety's characteristic deep colour and chewy tannin framework, followed by aging in oak to soften the grape's naturally robust texture without erasing its regional identity. What distinguishes this expression within the Casal Bordino range is its deliberate positioning as a food-structured wine rather than an approachable everyday pour — the tannin is left present and purposeful. Drink now with a generous decant, or cellar 2–4 years to allow the oak and fruit to fully integrate.
