From our sommelier team

Clerc Milon carries about 1% Carménère, a variety largely lost to the Médoc after phylloxera, alongside the more usual Petit Verdot. The label is a piece of the Rothschild art collection: from 1970 Baron Philippe used a reproduction of a Jungfraubecher, a silver-gilt marriage cup by a 17th-century German goldsmith, and in 1983 he replaced it with a pair of dancers reproduced from a miniature of gold, enamel and pearls that had belonged to Catherine II of Russia, inspired by Commedia dell'Arte characters. The wine is known in several markets simply as 'the two dancers'. A new winery building was completed in 2011, and a second wine, Pastourelle de Clerc Milon, was introduced with the 2009 vintage.

Signature pairings

  • Grilled côte de boeuf — A Cabernet-dominant Pauillac needs the fat and char of a bone-in beef cut to resolve its tannin.
  • Roast leg of lamb with garlic — The traditional Pauillac partner: lamb fat softens tannin and the garlic meets the wine's savoury depth.
  • Venison with blackcurrant sauce — Lean game and dark fruit sauce track the cassis character typical of Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon.

Château Clerc Milon's 2022 vintage exemplifies the power and elegance of Pauillac. A Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend, this wine opens with ripe blackcurrant and dark plum, layered with cedar and graphite minerality. The palate is structured and full-bodied, with high tannins that promise decades of evolution. Secondary notes of tobacco and leather emerge with air, while the finish lingers with black pepper spice and subtle oak influence. This is a wine built for the cellar—classic Left Bank Bordeaux architecture designed to develop complexity over 15–25 years.
