−20%Giuseppe Ponte established the family cellar at Frazione Gorzano, San Damiano d'Asti in 1968, positioning the estate deliberately between Asti and Alba — a geographic middle ground that gives the third-generation Ponte brothers (Massimo, Ivan, and Renato) access to Barolo DOCG fruit without abandoning their Asti-province roots. Renato trained at the Enologica Albese, and the house philosophy — fruit purity over oak extraction — shapes every wine in the range, including this Nebbiolo.
The 100% Nebbiolo undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation at 26–28°C in stainless steel with 10–15 days of skin maceration, extracting Barolo's characteristic tar-and-rose aromatic profile and firm tannin structure without the risk of over-extraction. At 14.5% ABV, the wine carries the density expected of the Langhe's late-ripening Nebbiolo. Oak aging parameters follow the house's broader philosophy of using wood as a frame rather than a flavour source.
What distinguishes this expression within the Fratelli Ponte range is its appellation reach: sourced under Barolo DOCG classification, it is the estate's sole foray into the Cuneo-province heartland of Nebbiolo, produced by a family whose primary holdings sit on chalky soils in San Damiano d'Asti — making this an outlier in their portfolio and a value-anchored entry into one of Piedmont's most tightly regulated appellations. Drink from release through medium-term cellaring.
