Barolo DOCG
฿฿
SaleCoppo's Barolo DOCG originates from Monforte d'Alba, one of Barolo's most prestigious communes in the Langhe hills of Piedmont. The vineyard sits on calcareous marl and clay soils at 300–400 meters elevation, with south-southwest aspect that channels afternoon sun across the steep slopes—a microclimate that ripens Nebbiolo to full phenolic maturity while preserving acidity.
Coppo employs traditional maceration in open wooden vats, followed by aging in large Slavonian oak casks (30–50 hectoliters) for 24–30 months. This vessel choice—neutral, permeable wood—allows slow oxidative evolution without oak vanillin overlay, a hallmark of classical Barolo production. The winery avoids new French oak, prioritizing the wine's terroir expression over oak spice.
The special feature here is Coppo's commitment to extended bottle age before release; this Barolo typically spends 12+ months in glass before shipping, softening tannins while building tertiary complexity. The 2016 vintage (if current) benefited from a warm, dry growing season that produced concentrated fruit without excessive alcohol.
Drinking window: 2025–2040. Young bottles show primary cherry and rose; cellared examples develop leather, dried plum, and mineral earth.
