Fixin 1er Cru "Cols du Chapitre" (Magnum) (1.5 L)
฿฿฿฿
Premier Cru.
Fixin's forgotten first growths sit on the northern edge of the Côte de Nuits, where limestone bedrock and clay soils produce leaner, more austere Pinot Noir than their celebrated neighbors to the south. Domaine Gilbert et Christine Felettig's "Cols du Chapitre" vineyard occupies a mid-slope position at approximately 280–320 meters elevation, where morning exposure and afternoon shade moderate ripening and preserve acidity.
The domaine employs traditional Burgundian maceration—whole-bunch fermentation in open wooden vats with native yeasts, typically 10–14 days on skins—followed by 18 months in French oak (proportion of new wood varies by vintage, typically 30–40% for this cuvée). Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel, softening the wine's natural austerity while retaining the mineral spine characteristic of Fixin's terroir.
This magnum format (1.5 L) develops more slowly than standard bottles, allowing the wine's secondary flavors and structural integration to evolve over an extended drinking window. Felettig's Fixin bottlings are known for their restraint and age-worthiness rather than immediate opulence—a deliberate stylistic choice that rewards patience.
Drinking window: 5–15 years from release, depending on vintage conditions.
