Gevrey-Chambertin "Mes Favorites" Vieilles Vignes (Magnum) (1.5 L)
฿฿฿฿
Story: The Burguet family has farmed Gevrey-Chambertin's mid-slope parcels since the 1980s, building a reputation for transparency over extraction—a philosophy tested annually against the village's heavier-handed neighbors.
Site & Terroir: Gevrey-Chambertin's limestone-clay soils, positioned on the eastern slope of the Côte de Nuits at 280–320 meters elevation. The aspect captures morning sun and afternoon shade, moderating ripeness and preserving acidity. Old vines (average 40+ years) draw mineral intensity from fractured limestone substrata.
Technique: Destemming and cold maceration precede fermentation in open wooden vats with natural yeasts. Aging in French oak (25–30% new wood) for 12–14 months allows phenolic integration without oak dominance. Minimal filtration preserves fine tannin structure.
Special Feature: The "Mes Favorites" designation reflects Burguet's selection of their finest old-vine parcels—a cuvée that prioritizes mineral salinity and mid-palate tension over fruit-forward appeal, marking a deliberate rejection of modern Burgundy's ripeness bias.
Drinking Window: 2020–2035. Magnum format (1.5 L) extends aging potential and moderates oxidation.
