Premier Cru, Vosne-Romanee.

Story: The Burguet family has farmed Vosne-Romanée for three generations, with Jean-Luc and Eric now stewarding parcels across the appellation's most coveted 1er Cru sites. Les Rouges du Dessus—literally "the reds from above"—occupies a southeast-facing slope above the village proper, where morning sun and afternoon shade create the tension that defines Burgundy's greatest expressions.

Site & Terroir: This 1er Cru parcel sits on Jurassic limestone bedrock overlaid with clay-rich marl, typical of Vosne's mid-slope position. Elevation and aspect allow slow ripening of Pinot Noir while preserving acidity and mineral precision.

Technique: Fruit is destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled open vats, allowing extended skin contact without excessive extraction. Aging occurs in French oak (proportion and new-wood percentage reflect vintage conditions), with élevage lasting 12–15 months before bottling without fining or filtration. This approach preserves the wine's aromatic transparency and allows terroir expression to dominate over oak influence.

Special Feature: Burguet's commitment to minimal intervention—no new oak dominance, no over-extraction—allows the limestone minerality and red-fruit precision of Les Rouges du Dessus to emerge unmasked. The wine drinks with the restraint and complexity expected of serious Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, not the fruit-forward style that dominates commercial Burgundy.

Drinking Window: Approachable now with 5–8 years of cellaring potential in good vintages.
