Domaine Georges Noellat Morey-Saint-Denis

From 1990 to 2010, every bottle produced here was sold in bulk to Jadot and Drouhin — meaning Maxime Cheurlin, grandson of Marie-Thérèse Noëllat and blood relative of the Jayer lineage, built this domaine's entire standing from his first vintage at age twenty. That debut generation of wines already carried old-vine material: the estate's argilo-calcaire soils — clay-limestone where the limestone fraction drives drainage and aromatic lift while the clay underpins concentration — support vines averaging well over half a century in age across the Côte de Nuits. For Morey-Saint-Denis, those soils sit at the northern boundary of the domaine's range, producing a Pinot Noir with the darker-fruited, slightly more structured register that distinguishes Morey from its Chambolle and Vosne neighbours. Vinification is 100% destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts only, and built on cold pre-fermentation maceration; Cheurlin's signature 'infusion' philosophy keeps punch-downs rare and gentle, preserving aromatic precision over extracted mass. Aging runs 14–20 months in French oak at approximately 30% new barrique for village-level wines, with the cellar actively cooled to delay and slow malolactic fermentation — a deliberate technique adopted from around 2017 that critics including Allen Meadows credit with adding structural precision. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2022 vintage shows fine intensity and refinement, continuing a run of strong years at the domaine.
