Since 2006, Ornellaia's Vendemmia d'Artista project has assigned each vintage a single defining word — interpreted by a commissioned contemporary artist, with proceeds benefiting the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The 2021 edition carries 'La Generosità', a designation that anchors both the cultural programme and the winemaking intent for the year.

The estate's 99 ha span two distinct blocks: the original 41 ha surrounding the winery on denser clay-dominant soils, and the 58 ha Bellaria property to the north on stonier, alluvial ground at 50–120 m asl — the latter delivering fresher, more vibrant fruit that counterbalances the weight of the clay parcels. Tyrrhenian Sea breezes moderate summer heat and imprint a saline coastal tension that separates Ornellaia from any inland Bordeaux analogue.

Each variety and block is vinified separately: fermentation in stainless steel and concrete below 25°C, followed by 10–15 days maceration (total vat time ~3 weeks). Malolactic fermentation occurs in French oak barriques (70% new, 30% once-used), with aging continuing for ~18 months total — 12 months as individual base wines, then assembled and returned to barrel for a further 6 months — before a minimum 12 months of bottle age prior to release.

What no Bolgheri peer replicates: the estate simultaneously produces Ornus dell'Ornellaia, a late-harvest Petit Manseng from the micro-parcel 'Palmetta' — a variety with no precedent on the Tuscan coast, making Ornellaia the only Super Tuscan estate operating across both Bordeaux-blend and exotic late-harvest registers.

The 2021 vintage note is not yet fully documented in the brand library; the wine's structural architecture — coastal minerality, barrique-integrated tannin, and the estate's characteristic Mediterranean generosity — points to a drinking window opening from approximately 2026 through the mid-2030s and beyond.
