Les Tourelles de Longueville Pauillac
฿฿฿
Les Tourelles de Longueville is the second wine of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, one of Pauillac's most consistent producers. The vineyard sits on the left bank's signature gravel-over-clay plateau, elevated 25–30 metres above the Gironde estuary, with southeast aspect capturing afternoon sun across deep Günz gravel beds that warm and drain rapidly.
The blend prioritizes Cabernet Sauvignon (70–75%) from older vines, with Merlot (20–25%) and small Cabernet Franc additions. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled concrete and wooden vats; malolactic conversion completes in barrel. The wine spends 12–14 months in French oak (30–40% new), allowing secondary maturation without overwhelming the fruit structure typical of second-label positioning.
As a second wine, Tourelles captures Longueville's house style—structured Pauillac with mid-palate weight—while offering earlier drinkability than the grand vin. The gravel terroir imparts mineral tension and fine-grained tannin definition rather than extraction.
Drink 2025–2040. Peak drinking window: 2028–2035.
