Vosne-Romanee
฿฿฿
Vosne-Romanée represents the apex of Burgundian Pinot Noir terroir. This Benjamin Le-roux expression originates from the commune that encompasses the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti vineyard sites and shares their limestone-rich, iron-oxide soils at approximately 250–280 meters elevation on the eastern slope of the Côte d'Or.
The wine undergoes traditional Burgundian vinification: whole-cluster or partial whole-cluster fermentation in temperature-controlled vessels, typically 10–14 days maceration to extract color and tannin structure without over-extraction. Aging in French oak—a mix of new and one-year-old barrels—for 12–16 months allows gradual oxidative maturation and subtle vanilla-oak integration characteristic of the appellation's house style.
Vosne-Romanée's signature lies in its aromatic precision: the wine expresses the mineral spine of limestone bedrock alongside red-fruit clarity. The tannin structure remains fine-grained rather than aggressive, reflecting Pinot Noir's natural phenolic profile when handled with restraint.
Drink from release through 8–12 years, though quality Vosne-Romanée from reputable producers often develops secondary complexity (leather, forest floor, dried cherry) with additional bottle age.
