Joseph Drouhin Vosne Romanee
฿5,669
Founded in 1880 and now in its fourth generation under the Drouhin family, Maison Joseph Drouhin completed a full biodynamic conversion of its Burgundy holdings — certified by ECOCERT from the 2009 vintage — an extraordinary undertaking for a 100-hectare négociant-domaine hybrid. Vosne-Romanée sits at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, its soils a precise layering of shallow limestone-rich clay over Bajocian and Bathonian bedrock, delivering the iron-tinged depth and aromatic intensity that separates this village from every neighbour.
Winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin vinifies with indigenous yeasts in small open vats, 2–3 weeks maceration with pigeage and pumping-over, then ages in French high-forest oak (228L–300L) for 12–18 months at 15–25% new oak — a deliberately restrained regime that keeps terroir in front of wood. Vines are horse-ploughed with cover crops between rows, a biodynamic discipline rare at négociant scale.
What distinguishes this cuvée is Drouhin's refusal to chase extraction: the house philosophy of finesse over power means a village Vosne is built on silky tannin architecture rather than concentration, making it unusually transparent to site. The 2015 vintage delivered full, aromatic, ripe fruit with genuine structural depth — a warm year that produced wines of early appeal and meaningful cellaring potential through the late 2020s.
