Joseph Drouhin Morey Saint Denis
฿3,609
Founded in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin completed a full biodynamic conversion across its 100-hectare Burgundy estate under Philippe Drouhin — earning ECOCERT certification for the 2009 vintage, an extraordinary commitment for a négociant-domaine of this scale. Morey Saint Denis sits on the Côte de Nuits between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, its clay-limestone soils threaded with iron-rich marl delivering the village's characteristic combination of structural grip and aromatic depth. Vinification employs partial whole-cluster inclusion, fermentation in small open vats over 2–3 weeks with pigeage and pumping-over using indigenous yeasts exclusively. Élevage runs 12–18 months in 228L or 300L French high-forest oak at 15–25% new, with all decisions made by tasting rather than fixed protocol — a deliberate rejection of formula winemaking. What sets this cuvée apart within the Drouhin range is the appellation itself: Morey Saint Denis is the Côte de Nuits' most undersung village, flanked by five Grand Crus yet rarely commanding the premiums of its neighbours, offering genuine terroir transparency at a fraction of the price. The 2018 vintage delivered excellent phenolic maturity with increased whole-cluster vinification, producing a wine of density and aromatic complexity that rewards 3–8 years of cellaring.
