Gerard Bertrand Cote des Roses Rose
฿1,000
Gérard Bertrand built his empire on a deliberate provocation: proving that the South of France, long dismissed as a bulk-wine factory, could produce wines of genuine terroir precision at scale. The Côte des Roses rosé is the entry point to that argument, sourced from across Languedoc-Roussillon's Mediterranean corridor where warm coastal winds reduce disease pressure and limestone-dominant soils drive natural acidity in the fruit. Every estate feeding this blend is farmed to Demeter biodynamic standards — no synthetic inputs, all vineyard decisions governed by the lunar calendar — a commitment unmatched by any producer of comparable volume globally. In the cellar, the rosé is made by the saignée method, fermented in stainless steel, with malolactic fermentation deliberately blocked to lock in the natural tartaric freshness that the Mediterranean climate can otherwise erode. The blend draws on Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah — the Grenache providing red-fruit weight, Cinsault lending pale colour and floral lift, Syrah adding spice and structural backbone. What separates this from the Provence template is its Languedoc origin: warmer, more expressive fruit character than Côtes de Provence, yet disciplined by biodynamic farming and cold fermentation. Drink young, within 1–2 years of vintage, to capture the saignée's vivid aromatic precision.
