Auchentoshan's Glasgow distillery, founded 1823 on the banks of the Clyde, remains the only Scottish producer to employ triple distillation—a technique that strips the spirit of heavy congeners and delivers exceptional clarity. The 18 Year expression matures in ex-bourbon casks, allowing the distillery's signature light, fruity character to develop without aggressive oak overlay.

Lowland terroir—soft water from local sources, cool maritime influence from the Clyde estuary—favors delicate spirit production. The triple-distillation regime produces a spirit of unusual purity; 18 years in refill and first-fill ex-bourbon wood adds subtle vanilla and orchard complexity without dominating the base malt.

Special feature: The triple-distillation process is labor-intensive and rare in modern Scotch production, concentrating lighter esters and aldehydes that age into honeyed, floral notes rather than the heavier fruit-cake profiles of double-distilled rivals.
