The Glenrothes 18 Years Old (700 ml)
฿9,999
When Glenrothes distillery first ran spirit on 28 December 1879, it drew water from private on-estate springs naturally filtered through volcanic bedrock beneath the Mannoch Hills — a source it still uses exclusively today, one of very few Scottish distilleries to control its own water from production through spirit reduction. That geological specificity matters: the mineral character of the Burn of Rothes catchment underpins the distillery's famously oily, fruit-dense house style. Distillation is conducted at roughly half the flow rate of comparable Speyside operations through five tall copper pot stills fitted with oversized boiling balls, maximising reflux and producing a bright, estery new make from which only the hearts cut — less than approximately 20% of total distillate — is retained. Maturation leans heavily on first-fill sherry-seasoned butts (European and American oak, up to 700 L, sourced from Jerez), held in traditional dunnage warehouses and tended by one of Scotland's rare on-site cooperages, where four coopers repair roughly 6,000 casks annually. The 18 Year Old is bottled at 43% ABV, natural colour, and without chill-filtration — the brand's stated philosophy being 'maturity, not age.' What sets this expression apart is structural: at 18 years the sherry-oak integration crosses into a second aromatic register the distillery describes as more fragrant and refined than the fruit-dominant first 15 years, a threshold few age-statement Speysides explicitly acknowledge.
