Svedka, founded in 1998 in Lidköping, Sweden, built its reputation on continuous-column distillation from winter wheat — a grain chosen for its neutral, clean base that acts as a blank canvas for flavoring. Colada is a deliberate departure from that neutral core: the distillery layers coconut and pineapple flavoring onto the wheat-distilled spirit to replicate the profile of a piña colada cocktail without added mixer.

The base spirit is produced via continuous-column distillation, a method that strips congeners aggressively and yields a high-purity distillate. The flavoring is added post-distillation rather than through maceration, which keeps the texture lighter than cream-based liqueurs.
