1800 Milenio Tequila
฿฿฿฿
1800 Milenio was created to mark the turn of the millennium, drawing on Los Altos de Jalisco blue Weber agave grown at elevations above 2,000 metres — the high-altitude red clay soils of this region slow agave maturation, concentrating sugars and producing a more herbaceous, mineral character than lowland Tequila Valley fruit. The name references the estate's founding vision: a single ultra-premium expression that would not be replicated annually but released as a statement of craft. Milenio is an extra-añejo, rested well beyond the three-year minimum across a rotation of French Limousin oak barriques, American white oak barrels, and ex-Scotch whisky casks — a tri-cask regime that is rare in the extra-añejo category and directly responsible for the layered vanilla, dried fruit, and faint cereal complexity that distinguishes it from single-wood peers. The liquid is bottled at a controlled ABV in a hand-numbered, hand-blown glass decanter designed by artist Javier Marín — the vessel itself is a collectible. What sets Milenio apart categorically is the Scotch cask influence: importing whisky-barrel character into tequila production remains an outlier move, bridging two distillate traditions. Drink now through the next decade; the oak integration will continue to soften any residual agave sharpness over time.
