Ron Matusalem Solera 7 Year Old Rum (700 ml)
฿999
Ron Matusalem traces its origins to 1872, when Cuban founders Benjamín Camp and Álvaro Camp established a distillery built around the solera blending method — a fractional aging system borrowed from Jerez sherry production, applied here to Caribbean rum decades before the technique became fashionable in the category. The brand relocated to the Dominican Republic, where production is now centred in Santiago de los Caballeros, a highland city in the Cibao Valley whose lower humidity and cooler nights slow the angel's share and allow longer, more controlled maturation than coastal Caribbean facilities.
The Solera 7 moves spirit through a stacked tier of American oak barrels, with younger rum continuously feeding older reserves — the stated minimum age of 7 years reflects the oldest component in the blend. This fractional system produces a consistency of profile across batches that single-vintage aging cannot replicate. The rum is not chill-filtered to the same aggressive standard as many commercial blends, preserving ester compounds developed during the extended wood contact.
What distinguishes this expression within the Matusalem range is its position as the entry point to the solera tier — delivering the house's caramel-and-dried-fruit signature at a proof and price that makes it the most accessible demonstration of the method.
