Luxardo Sambuca (1 L)
฿1,149
When Girolamo Luxardo established his distillery in Zara, Dalmatia in 1821, the house codified recipes that the family — now into its sixth and seventh generations — has refused to alter. After wartime destruction forced relocation to Torreglia in 1947, production resumed on the slopes of the Euganean Hills in Padova, where the distillery at Via Romana 42 now operates at a capacity of 6,000 bottles per hour without sacrificing batch methodology. Luxardo Sambuca is built on an infusion of Chinese star anise, processed through the same traditional copper pot still infrastructure — discontinuous, steam-heated, batch distillation — that defines the house's approach across its entire range. The botanical sourcing draws on the microclimate of the Euganean Hills, a volcanic hill system that provides the estate with distinct growing conditions. The production philosophy prioritises traditional Italian recipes, some traceable to the original 1821 formulations, positioning this Sambuca within a house that is categorically a distillate producer, not a flavour-house. What separates Luxardo's range from competitors is full vertical integration: the same family that cultivates 22,000–30,000 proprietary Marasca cherry trees — the largest cherry orchard in the EU — applies identical estate-level discipline to its broader botanical portfolio. Non-vintage by nature; drink as produced.
