Sod Chaeng Gin (750 ml)
฿1,059
Sod Chaeng — meaning "fresh, direct" in Thai — is a Chiang Mai-born craft gin that deliberately rejects the London Dry template in favour of northern Thai botanical identity. The distillery sources its signature aromatics from the highlands surrounding Chiang Mai, where cooler temperatures and fertile mountain soils concentrate volatile oils in lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, and galangal far more intensely than lowland cultivation allows.
The botanical bill centres on these three indigenous ingredients alongside juniper, producing a gin whose citrus-herbal register is unmistakably rooted in the Mae Rim and Doi Saket growing zones rather than any European tradition. Distillation follows a small-batch pot-still method, preserving the waxy, resinous texture of fresh galangal root and the sharp green lift of kaffir lime zest.
What sets this expression apart within the Thai craft spirits category is its refusal to use imported dried botanicals as the primary flavour drivers — fresh, locally harvested material is the production philosophy, making each batch a seasonal snapshot of northern Thai agriculture. The result is a gin that reads as a culinary ingredient as much as a spirit, with a pronounced savouriness beneath the citrus top notes.
